5 ways to spruce up your home décor inexpensively and with ease

It won’t be long now until summer turns to fall and what a great time to plan ahead and make some changes in your décor. With a few minor shifts and a couple of interior styling tips, you can change the overall mood of a room with ease. Redecorating a room can be fun just by trying these simple inexpensive ways that can switch things up, breathe new life into a room without having to spend an exorbitant amount money on new pieces. We’ve compiled a list of some of the easiest ways to get creative with what you already have to satisfy that urge in shaking things up.

See if pieces will look better in other rooms

You would be surprised by the number of things you already own that could just be moved from one space into another to give each room some new character. The rug that you have in your bedroom might work just as beautifully in your living room, and give it new charm. Perhaps the artwork in your dining room will work better in your foyer and vice versa! It is easy to become attached to the idea of specific pieces belonging in specific rooms, but you’ll be so pleased with the result when you break away from those ideas and do things a little differently. When you move things around, you’ll see it all with fresh eyes. We often tend to overlook objects that have been in the same place for a long time.

Rearrange your Furniture

Sometimes when your furniture has been in the same spot for a long time, it can start to feel like it’s time for it to go. But before you ditch a classic piece, try giving it new life by simply moving it to another wall or in front of a window. Split your sectional up, put your couch against a different wall, move a table to another corner or face your bed in a different direction. With easy little shifts you can change the entire flow of a room to give it a fresh and revitalized feeling. If you’re worried that things won’t fit or you know for sure that things only work in one arrangement, try updating or rearranging your accessories instead as mentioned in the first section.

Dress The Perimeter

The perimeter of a room can make a huge difference in the overall look and feel of the space. The walls, floors, ceilings and corners should always be taken into consideration when you’re looking at a room as a whole. Consider adding or rearranging pictures, frames, mirrors, rugs, and lighting fixtures to give a room a new flair. Empty wall space can make a room feel flat or bleak, so look around to see if you have anything around the house that can shake things up. You also don’t need to match everything so try to introduce something vibrant in a monochromatic colour scheme.

Go Green

One of the easiest ways to add new life to a room is by bringing a real living thing into that room, like a plant! It is scientifically proven that being close to nature (a living plant in this case) can have a direct effect on and improve your mood. Buying indoor plants is not free, but it is inexpensive and a great way to add colour and life into a room. Introducing greenery can make a big difference in changing the mood and the air in any room.

Declutter

It’s very easy to accumulate things over the years. People give you gifts and before you know it you have a house full of things that get stowed away in a closet, never to see the light of day. Although it’s difficult to part with some things, decluttering can breathe a breath of fresh air into just about any space. Simplicity is the key to elegance, so get rid of things that don’t serve you and only hang on to the things you truly love. If the decluttering you need to do is more so in the way of shelves, tables and other things in that realm, try implementing spacing things further apart or using the rule of 3! Arranging things into groups of 3 makes them look carefully curated rather than strewn together all over the place.

These are some of the many simple changes you can make around the house that can improve the overall atmosphere significantly and inexpensively. Don’t be afraid to move things around and see what a difference it can make. And of course, do move out summer related décor and prepare for the cooler months ahead. Have a cozy blanket or throw you need to take out?
